I think having the witch be the main villain throughout the story was a massive improvement considering how underwhelming her character is in the book, Margaret’s performance as the Wicked Witch was so iconic she became the blueprint for the Classic witch, anytime you see a green witch it is a nod to her, and even inspiring her own spin off franchise in the form of Wicked the book, musical, and soon to be movie

I also hated the way they treated Dorothy gale like a fucking damsel in distress which shes anything but in the books. She figures out ways to get out of trouble in oz. She was smart and brave like any other boy back then

Brian has a tendency to rock to the beat whenever he sings. And I really like it. No matter if it’s a happy number or a sad number. It just adds to it.

Fun fact: Hamilton played two witches, she played the Wicked Witch of the East in the tornado scene and the Wicked Witch of the West in the rest of the film. However, no one could tell what witch it was in the tornado scene because it was all sepia tone. But, in the theater version of the film, it was mentioned in the end that Miss Gulch was the victim of the tornado, she was hit by a telephone pole when the tornado hit Kansas, similar to how the East Witch was crushed by the house.

As a kid I wasn't scared of the flying monkeys -- the only time I was was when the witch's face replaced the image of Auntie Em in the hourglass. What a great witch!

I wish this song had been on the original soundtrack.

Margaret Hamilton's epic performance aside, I like how everyone in the movie is scared sh*tless of the witch except Glinda who just laughs at her and tells her she has no power over her. It's a hopeful message.

I actually think that Ricky Hobbs wasn't so bad. He genially had feelings for Sylvia. He even helped her out in escaping from the Baniszewski's house, which was pretty funny I thought.

I had tickets to see this on Broadway but it closed before the date on my tickets. A letter went out to ticket holders asking if they wanted to come in before the closing but by the time i made the call it was all sold out/fully booked. Seeing this was to be my 1988 graduation present because of my love of the original 1984 concept LP. Chess remains to this day ine of my favorite musicals and I have many versions.
